Job title: Development Coordinator

Classification: Part-time (between 15 and 25 hours per week), Non-exempt

Reports to: Development Director

Compensation
: $30 per hour (15-25 hours/week, flexible) or $30 per hour + benefits (25 per week)

Benefits:
Individual health plan available for those regularly working a minimum of 25 hours per week, subsidized at 70% by the Center. Dental benefits and 401k with matching benefits are also available. Holidays and paid time off available.

Location: This is a hybrid position. Some of the work of this position is expected to take place from our office at 265 Prospect Street, Northampton, Massachusetts during normal weekday business hours every week. A substantial portion of the job duties can be performed remotely during flexible hours, in coordination with the rest of the team.

SUMMARY
The Northampton Survival Center is an emergency food provider dedicated to improving the quality of life for low-income individuals and families throughout Hampshire County by providing nutritious food and other resources in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. The Center receives thousands of individual and organizational donations throughout the year in a variety of ways, including through checks, cash, and online gifts.

With a current budget of just over $1.4 million, the Center enjoys broad and robust community support based on strong relationships throughout the community. We seek a conscientious and detail-oriented person to work with our development team to process donations and coordinate our grants management process.

Some of the work of this position is expected to take place from our office in Northampton, MA during normal weekday business hours every week. A substantial portion of the job duties can be performed remotely during flexible hours, in coordination with the rest of the team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Donations Processing

  • Assist with recording and acknowledging gifts and donations from individuals and organizations.
  • Work with the development team to initiate and implement database cleanup and process improvements, as needed.

Grants Management

  • Spearhead the tracking of grants, including maintaining a calendar of grant opportunities, application deadlines, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of grant proposals, including compiling necessary documentation and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Research new grants and funding opportunities.

Communications

  • Assist with creating and promoting outreach materials and other communications.

Administrative

  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed to aid the efforts of the development team

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This position is designed for a part-time staff person working between 15 to 25 hours per week. There is flexibility in how many hours are logged within that range on a weekly basis, if coordinated with the development team.

Regular business hours at the Center run Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On-site work is expected to be performed within that schedule, to overlap with the development team. Flexible hours are available for remote work.

QUALIFICATIONS/ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least two years of administrative work, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and time management skills.
  • Fluency in MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Google Docs.
  • Experience working with a donor database or other Customer Management Software required. Familiarity with Bloomerang CRM a plus.
  • Sensitive to the needs of persons in crisis and has experience/interest in working in multicultural settings.
  • Ability to manage donor information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage one’s own time and project details through hybrid work using a combination of shared documents, email, teleconferencing, and in-person meetings.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Center is a fast-paced office environment where the phone rings and visitors enter throughout the day. The organization thrives with a dedicated, collaborative, and collegial staff who pitch in when needed to fulfill the mission of improving the quality of life for low-income individuals and families throughout Hampshire County.

The position primarily works indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Frequent computer work, typing, writing, talking on the phone, in person, and via teleconference required.

Remote work performed for this position must take place in a private, organized setting where confidential donor information can be carefully and appropriately handled.
