Easy Peach Crisp

A simple and easy-to-make dessert for family and friends.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 40-50 minutes
Servings: 6-8

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cans peaches
  • 1 package oats
  • 1 container cinnamon
  • 1 package brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Cornstarch

SUGGESTED ADD-INS

  • vanilla extract
  • cardamom
  • butter for the topping
  • fresh fruit or dried fruit – like cherries, plums, or nectarines

Prepare your ingredients:

  1. Open the two cans of peaches
    1. Drain the liquid from the cans, saving about 2 tbsp
  2. Measure ½ cup of oats
  3. Measure ¼ cup of brown sugar
  4. Measure 1 teaspoon cinnamon, separate into two ½ teaspoons
  5. Measure 1 tbsp cornstarch
  6. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F

Prepare the crisp:

    1. Grease a 8 x 8 pan (or a pan of similar size)
    2. In the greased pan:
      1. Add the peaches, cornstarch, a ½ tsp of cinnamon and the 2 tbsp of reserved juice
      2. Toss the ingredients together until the peaches are coated and all the dry ingredients are well incorporated.
    3. In a separate bowl, make the crumble topping
      1. Add the oats, the remaining cinnamon and the brown sugar to the bowl
      2. Mix well, breaking up any clumps of brown sugar
    4. Sprinkle the oat topping over the peaches, making an even layer.

Bake for 30-45 minutes:

  1. The peach juices around the edges should be bubbling and the topping should turn a golden brown when the dessert is finished
  1. Let cool for 10 – 15 minutes before serving. This step is important so the peach filling can thicken into a delicious dessert.

CARROT TIPS

      • Try pears instead of peaches and add almond extract for a seasonal fall dessert
    • Boost the flavors with more flavor enhancers like cardamom, nutmeg and vanilla extract
    • Use fresh fruit instead of canned – this recipe could work with apples, cherries, plums, nectarines or other summer fruits
    • Add butter to the crumble topping for a crunchier texture
