In Memoriam – Mark Dubeck
Northampton, MA – On July 31, 2023, Mark Dubeck died peacefully at home in the loving care of his wife Barbara after years of declining health. Born on May 29, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, to Gert and Al Dubeck, Mark graduated from City College High School and from University of Maryland, where he majored in psychology and marketing. After college, he worked as an intake director at Neighborhood Youth Corps before heading west to Los Angeles, where he was senior counselor at Teen Canteen in Hollywood. In 1988, Mark moved to Northampton, MA, with his first wife Demetra, who died not long after.
Before leaving LA, Mark completed his Master’s in Family Therapy at Antioch College. He worked at MSPCC in Springfield until he established a private psychotherapy practice, first in Chicopee and then in Northampton. In 1997, Mark met Barbara just as she was starting a nonprofit organization, The Garden: A Center for Grieving Children and Teens, and together, they grew this valuable support program with love and dedication for 10 years. Mark and Barbara spent many wonderful summers at their beach cottage on Plum Island, where Mark relished extraordinary sunrises, sunsets, and time with family.
Mark adored being Papa to his four beautiful grandchildren, Ruby, Ben, Ezra, and Amita. He will be deeply missed by each of them and their parents, Jennifer and Seth Gottlieb and Anna and Brandt Passalacqua. The light of Mark’s humor, love, and unending goodness will live on in all the hearts of those who will remember him. A private graveside gathering for friends and family will take place at Wildwood Cemetery. Donations in Mark’s memory can be offered to Northampton Survival Center.
