In Memoriam – Mary Bourret
NORTHAMPTON – Mary (Murphy) Bourret died on June 20, 2018 at her home in Northampton, MA.
Mary was born on Feburary 16, 1951 to Robert and Marion (Sonn) Murphy in Mt. Kisco, New York. She spent her early childhood in Yorktown Heights, New York before moving with her family to Sunderland and attending Frontier Regional High.
Mary spent most of her career managing on-campus bars and cafes at UMASS, Amherst. The work suited her bright, funny personality, and her ease at connecting with people. In later years she worked at Roberto’s in Northampton, where she was a beloved fixture to many in town. In her life outside work, Mary was just as social.
She proudly attended Woodstock when she was 18, and traveled to Europe later in life. She enjoyed beach vacations, going out, and seeing live music (especially Polka).
She was a true believer in the Red Sox, the Celtics, and the Patriots. Cooking for friends and family, gardening, sewing, and spending all the time she could with her grandchildren were all great loves of hers.
She is survived by her children, Todd Bourret and his partner Jen Liu; Allison Bourret Lawrence and her husband Ben Lawrence; Brothers Peter Murphy and his wife Linda, David Murphy and his wife Cindy, Robert Murphy and his partner Pamela Kappel, Matthew Murphy and his wife Piper; sister Pamela Paulin and her husband David; Grandchildren Charles and Cecily Lawrence; Frank Wdowiak, her partner of 19 years; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
Calling Hours are 9-11 a.m. on Friday at Czelusniak Funeral Home, 173 North St. Northampton, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made in Mary’s name to the Northampton Survival Center. www.northamptonsurvival.org
