In Memoriam – William Mackey

NORTHAMPTON – William R. Mackey, 69, of Northampton, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at home, with his loving family by his side. He was born May 31, 1947, in Holyoke to the late Arthur and Shirley (Morton) Mackey. He was a graduate of Northampton High School and served in the United States Army. When he returned home, he became an arborist at Cotton Tree Service and Asplundh. He later went to work at the Coca Cola Company for over 25 years as a filler operator. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Northampton, and also a member of the Greenfield Lodge No. 997 Loyal Order of Moose. Bill loved golfing and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, but most of all he cherished his grandchildren.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife for 48 years; Sandra (Sniado) Mackey; his sons Patrick and his partner Monique of Northampton, Tyler and his wife Megan of Whatley, and Shane of Whatley; his sisters Elizabeth Phillips, Kathleen Denning, Patrice Mackey, and Eleanor Holmes, his three grandchildren; Sandra Mackey of Florida., Calvin,(Bill’s little buddy), and Jolene Mackey of Whatley, and two great-grandchildren; Junior and Nels, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital VNA & Hospice, North, 3rd Floor at the Hospital and the CNA’s of O’Connell Care, for their care, and compassion that was given to Bill, the comfort and dignity provided will always be remembered.

There will be a memorial service May 13, 2017 at 11AM; there will be a calling hour from 10AM till the time of the service, at the Drozdal Funeral Home, 120 Damon Rd., Northampton. Military Honors will be rendered following the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
