Volunteering at the Northampton Survival Center
The Northampton Survival Center’s dedicated volunteer community plays an integral role in our history of over 45 years providing food and other resources to low-income individuals and families. All of our volunteers’ willingness to help makes a tremendous difference in the lives of our community members. Our Volunteer Program is a strong and growing tradition and our work could not continue without the contributions and dedication of our volunteers.
Roughly 100 volunteers each week complete the many tasks that ensure our clients receive the food they need, with an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Many of our volunteers hold weekly two-hour shifts, while others fill in as substitutes. Volunteer opportunities are currently available during the weekdays.

Volunteer Testimonials
What brings you back to the Center?
The people! The people who work here, the people who come here. It’s nice to feel you make a teeny, tiny difference.
-Jennifer
What made you decide to volunteer?
I wanted to do something right, that I felt was rewarding, and that I would get immediate gratification from. I donate money, but this is really rewarding, helping people, knowing you’re making a difference in their lives and seeing it.
-Bill
What do you like best about volunteering at the Northampton Survival Center?
I work at home, so this connects me with people and the community in a way that I wouldn’t be otherwise. I love the people—both the people who work here and the clients.
-Karen
I am 62 years old. I’ve worked in both the Government and private sectors, holding leadership positions. I have also volunteered and have led non-profits so… I can tell you without hesitation that NSC is the best-run non-profit I have ever seen! It is truly amazing that an organization of this size and complexity is run so efficiently. Every task, every delivery has been reviewed and I can tell that process improvement is a big part of how the daily tasks are achieved. From an “outsider” who volunteers each week, I can tell you that you all are “killing it.” Thank you!
