In Memoriam – Justine Caldwell

SOUTH HADLEY - Justine M. Caldwell, 97, of South Hadley, died peacefully at home on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 following a short illness. Justine was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, on Aug. 25, 1917, the only daughter of Kenneth and Justine (Middlebrook) Mintie. She was raised in Waterbury and went on to Colby Junior College and the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology. While at the Mary Hitchcock, she met her future husband, Renwick K. Caldwell, MD. They were married in 1946 and moved to Northampton in 1949, to be close to his work at the Veterans Hospital in Leeds.

NORTHAMPTON - Stanley V. Zewski, 82, of 39 Fair Street, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 1, 2014, in his home.

Born March 15, 1932, Stan was the only child of Victor and Catherine (Slaba) Zewski. He was a lifelong resident of Northampton and a graduate of Northampton High School.

LEEDS - Dr. Walter Alexander Haas, 86, of Leeds, died peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, surrounded by family and friends.

Walter was born in the small town of Neumarkt, Germany, to Frieda and Semi Haas. He would recall with fondness running about his grandfather's farm reading and climbing plum trees. His memories were always more playful than most would expect from someone who had been persecuted for being Jewish.
